Louise Dilemma A Louise Pearlie Mystery Sarah R Shaber Books
Ordinarily, I would not choose to read a book named "Louise's Dilemma".I won't go into the details of how and why this happened. I am glad I read it!
Here are the positive comments: Shaber can write, Louise is a delightful
character, the plot was good, the writer was true to the WW2 period
in history, the setting and additional characters were excellent. Now for
the negatives----not a single one.

Louise Dilemma A Louise Pearlie Mystery Sarah R Shaber Books Reviews
Sarah Shaber is a great writer. Have also read her Professor Simon Shaw Mystery Series. Will read all her books I can get my hands on.
I really like this series. They cost more than I like to pay for an ebook, but they're well written, true to the period, indepth characterization, good plot. I recommend them.
Louise’s need for independence and sense of adventure .I like hearing about the boarding house and the different personalities.
Bought this for my grandmother. She loved it. She also like the Authors other series, Simon Shaw mysteries.
Ms. Shaber had delighted me with her Simon Shaw character and I wasn't disappointed to read Louise's series. (The geographic linkages between them are fun.) To begin with, they're quite good yarns and mix intrigue with a credibility for Louise's role in them. Beyond that she captures the period (though I arrived a bit too late to have my own memories!) in its relative simplicity and straightforward approach to things without interjecting 21st century thoughts or language usage. A skillful job by a fine writer.
This is the third book in the Louise Pearlie series......wonderful read. With this book I have read all of Sarah Shaber books. She is a talented writer.
Louise Pearlie could be Nancy Drew from another time and place.
Louise is spunky and dedicated to her job as a "government girl".I can only hope that eventually she will be recognized and promoted to a job worthy of her intelligence and abilities!
Looking forward to more Louise!
Louise works for the OSS, she had had training to work in the field, but she works in the Washingto office analyzing and summarizing documents. It is the early days of World War II and a questionable post card ends up on her desk. She is sent with an officer from the Foreign Nationalities Branch to question the person the card was addressed to. The agent did a poor job and Louise goes back with an FBI agent to do a more extensive investigation. Again Louise is not sure she has all the information she needs so she makes one more trip. On this third trip Louise uncovers treason and a German U-boat.
In addition to being exciting this books made me want to know more about the women who worked in Washington during WW II. They were called "government girls" and I am quite certain many of them contributed more to the war effort than typing and filing.
I loved this whole series. It is written from a perspective not usually seen -- that is, from a female working in America on the war effort. The characters are believable, it is well-written, it shows the double standard present at that time concerning the woman being ostracized and damaged if she has an affair while unmarried, the rationing of resources, and how people worked together to help house, feed, and, generally, live through the war.
Ordinarily, I would not choose to read a book named "Louise's Dilemma".
