Culture Is The Bass 7 Principles For Developing A Culture That Works! eBook Gerald Leonard
In today's business world, one of the most challenging tasks is holding onto talented workers. These are men and women who have taken the time and effort to hone their talents and become experts at their craft. There was a time when money attracted the best and brightest, but today there is more money than talent to be had in the vast majority of fields. So if money is no longer the only draw for talent, as their choice of employer is broad, then the second most important offer is culture. It is a well known fact that more of the top talented people leave their jobs due to poor culture in their workplace. Building the correct culture in a business is no longer a choice but a necessity. It has to be more than fancy promises and snappy slogans. The best and brightest will see through this in a hot minute.
In his book Culture is the Bass, Gerald Leonard draws on both his considerable experience in the business world and his grounding as a professional musician to present a compelling look at 7 principles that will create a culture that works. There is no shortage of meat in this book as Gerald tackles an historically dry subject in a creative and compelling manner.
Gerald uses the model of an orchestra and the various instruments to clearly draw parallels with building an effective culture in any business. Without going into the weeds and requiring the reader to have a music degree, Gerald highlights the 7 principles clearly. These are principles that can be implemented in any business the moment the book is finished.
As Gerald progresses through the book providing solid examples of culture growing methods, you will see in your workplace how easily these can be adapted and implemented. Culture is not the buzzword du jour of the new millennia, it is the difference between the top talent working for you or your competitor.

Culture Is The Bass 7 Principles For Developing A Culture That Works! eBook Gerald Leonard Reviews
Just got my hard copy started reading and I can confirm by scanning through these 7 Principles will help me with my projects portfolio.
It is a fun and esdy read. The author does a good job to bring the subject to the level of those who know little about the subject matter.
A good work containing great illustrations from life, effectively using the author's life experiences to highlight hire to build a strong company culture
He also includes useful resources for assessing your own organization and how to build aand strengthen its own culture.
I thought the idea of company "stories" was particularly inspiring and useful.
I recommend this book strongly.
I don't work in management, (I'm a solopreneur) but I found this book very useful. I loved the strategies for finding Vision, Values, etc. Very applicable for businesses of any size. The music metaphor running throughout seemed very fresh to me. A terrific business book that's not cookie-cutter. Awesome!
Love the metaphor of how a great culture is like an orchestra. Having the right leadership and team are "instrumental" in a companies success. Gerald really nailed it with this book and love the tips he shares to create an organizational culture that works!
Culture is the Bass! What a great metaphor for a business book. It talks about the principles of values, how to getting buy-ins from the team, using the power of designing and implementing best practices, adhering to the unique story of your organization, creating a flourishing environment, powerful execution as a team and so many more.
At the end of each chapters you will see "questions to consider" that will help you process what you read and evoke powerful new thinking. Each chapter ends with a simple strategy that you could implement to build the "bass" (culture) of your world class organization. This is a must read for every business leader who wants to build an extraordinary culture and a team.
Really helpful! Culture Is The Bass by Gerald Leonard is an interesting and efficient way to look at the structure of a business. It takes the orchestra, (one of, if not the largest musical teams) and shows the correlation between it's many parts and a business. The book is nicely categorized and gives practical advice on how to get your company moving as smartly as an orchestra; and hopefully the individual feeling as integral to the team as a bass player to a band! Whether it's understanding your vision for the group, creating the right environment or learning how to move as a unit, there is more to a thriving business than a great product!
The thing that strikes me most as a cellist, classroom/private teacher, small group leader and uncle, among other things is that the principles Leonard outlines can be transferred to all the areas in one's life where leadership is required. That is where the "7 Principles for Developing A Culture That Works" shines. We are all apart of different cultures, wherever we are in life. They move and change and take many forms. If there's any part of your "orchestra" that isn't performing at its best, Culture Is The Bass' 7 principles can likely help diagnose some areas to help your group get with the program.
