In all the time they had together Carnage never wanted to, or even attempted to make an effort to learn English!? He just continued to make noises and stutter out simple words?? It was really frustrating to read, and his lack of communication got old because other characters had to be the sounding board for him.And now, my biggest caveat with this book is that their relationship just doesn't make sense (yes, other than the language barrier). About 80% of the book Carnage isn't even with her!!! How can the FMC really have true feelings for him if he's never around??? Seemed more like Stockholm Syndrome than true feelings: it seemed like it was a forced relationship with Carnage in order to further the plot.
I would have actually liked to have seen her with one of the other males that she actually spent real time with.
Final verdict: The character Carnage just doesn't work for me and the relationship doesn't make any sense. The world is interesting and I liked the FMC, but I just can't get past the obvious lack of character depth of Carnage.

Carnage Whispers From the Bayou Book 1 edition by Sandra R Neeley Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
I just didn't like this story. Carnage, to me, had no depth and was absolutely uninteresting. He had nothing going for him that would make a woman fall in love with him. That character could have been developed differently/better. As for Lena- what does it say about her that she'd fall for such a creature?
Again, the author did a new interesting take on paranormal creatures (a vampire that eats regular food), but she did not do a good job of creating depth to a simple creature. I was really thinking that Carnage hit Lena over the head and said "Love Me!!!" and she said "Okay" and the obsession began. Not believable or enjoyable.
Really enjoyed this book. It is the first I have read by this author. Carnage is a big gray being that lives on the out skirts of human society. He has live a very long time and never thought he would find a female to be with him. When he sees a woman running away from other men into the swamp where he lives he decides to save her. Once he has her in his arms he decides he can't let her go. Carnage can't speak very well. He is afraid Carolena will never be able to accept what he is or that he can't communicate with her very well. Carolena is a young women living in the early 1900's when women still had very little rights of their own. And to a father that has never wanted her. She wants to prove herself to her father by coming to Louisiana and being able to take care of her fathers business interest there but the men she must deal with decide to kidnap her. Even though she is a little afraid of Carnage she knows he saved her from a horrible fate, and he has been very kind and careful with her. When he decides to take her to his village she there is more in the world than she ever realized.
Carnage is such a sweet Character. He is big and gruff and quick to anger about somethings but he is also loving and fair. You can't help but to fall for him and want him to get the girl. You also want for Carolena to finally have someone who truly loves her. The supporting characters are great as well and you want them to have a wonderful life as well. A very sweet love story. I hope there are more to come from this series.
After reading several 5 star reviews I was very hopeful when I purchased this book. The storyline and characters were unique but I was continually disappointed as I read it, their were several opportunities for the author to add more drama or action but never did. I felt carnage was very undeveloped as a character and the romance between them felt forced. Overall I think it could have been a great story but was not written well.
I’ve been a fan of this authors since I first read Averleighs story. This book is so different from the others, but also the same. Sandra’s writing draws me in, no matter what the story is.
In this book, we are introduced to a new family. I loved Carnage, Carolena, and the rest of the boys. I have a feeling the Lore is going to be my favorite though.
The story is sweet, sad, happy, and heart aching, all making it perfect.
I’ll try to be patient waiting on the next book. No I won’t. I’ll stalk her until it releases. If I could, I’d give it 10 stars!
I love Gargoyles but now I have a completely different outlook on them. This story was so good and the characters were just amazing! The twist on the creatures of legends was just enough to make them unique and it was interesting to see the amount of different elements that were introduced in one story without it losing track of the main characters. This book is filled with humor and emotion but most importantly it's a great romance. I never expected to fall in love with a creature that looked like this cover, yet that's exactly what I did. I really want more of this mystical escape into the Bayou.
Wow, where to even begin. All the creatures you grew up hearing about, that go bump in the night, have joined forces and live together buried deep in the swamps. A unforseen love, one that should be impossible, beat all the odds. Carnage and Lenah (Carolena) are not a match made in heaven, or hell, but have chemistry from the second he rescues her from would be kidnappers who've chased her into the swamplands. So many twist and turns in this story, it will keep you enthralled and capture your attention from the first sentence. Find a comfy seat, because once you begin reading, you won't move. Congratulations, Sandra, another magnificent read. Can't wait to find out what happens in Whispers next.
